CAUSES OF INFERTILITY
Infertility can be caused due to male and/or female factors (85% of cases) or can just be unexplained in about 15% cases.
In Males:
- Issues with sperm production leading to low sperm counts, reduced motility & quality or no sperm production at all (azoospermia) – Due to testicular, hormonal or genetic problems
- Issues with sperm delivery – Low counts due to obstruction in the reproductive tract; erectile dysfunction/ premature ejaculation/ retrograde ejaculation
In Females:
- Increasing age leads to low ovarian reserves – Less number and poorer quality of eggs; Premature ovarian failure – Menopause before 40 years
- Hormonal imbalance – PCOS, thyroid problems
- Endometriosis
- Tubal blockage – Fallopian tubes are blocked due to infections, surgery or naturally
- Absence or uterus or ovaries due to genetic factors
- Cervical problems
